Sustainable Theme: Affordable and Clean Energy

When starting off the process of looking for a sustainable theme I wanted to focus on a revolutionary method improve the worlds consumption of clean energy. Of course the world already has implementations of clean energy such as solar energy, hydropower, biofuels etc., but they barely even make up 10% of the world’s energy source, whereas nearly everything else is simply burning fossil fuels.
I wanted to bring more attention to clean consumption of energy so during my research I dived into several topics of affordable and clean energy. One subject that piqued my interest was wind energy, as supposedly it’s rarely implemented on a global scale and dived deeper as to why.

It baffled me, a wind turbine is nearly one of the safest methods out there so how come it only comprises a measly 2% of clean energy. Now of course there is a considerable geography requirement as implementing wind turbines is only effective in regions with strong enough winds to turn the blades, yet most regions that do meet the requirements rarely use wind turbines if at all.

So, I’ve made my decision that for my sustainable theme my focus will be on wind based energy as a form of clean and affordable energy. With that the next step was to research credible companies that contributed into providing wind based energy and the Vestas Wind Turbine Company was one of the first to catch my eye.

Vestas is the company that manufacture and design wind turbines across the globe. As a business they do astounding work constantly moving with the times by not simply sticking giant fans to the ground but designing improved models one more efficient than the last. But then as a community they work all parties involved, be it the people who hired them to their own employees and keep their motto of creating not just a safe environment for the planet but for the community as well.
That’s what hooked me in but the biggest thing about it is that I’m certain that with this project I can help enhance this goal of providing clean energy as well as a clean enviroment.

  • Logo Designing

Taking a look upon Vestas’ official logo, at face value is a simple title name with stylized font. It has a sort of motion to it with a mellow feel choosing blue text but I feel it misses out on feeling natural.

My take on all this was to make a blend of machine and nature and create a sort of hyperrealism but simple and to the point. Seeing how the business specializes in wind turbines, my idea was to photoshop a wind turbine as the base but instead of normal blades it’s replaced with leaves.

Here I simply removed the blades on the fans and using a single image of a leaf copied it and placed them accordingly in line to the turbine. Any gaps in the background I filled properly so the coloration was perfectly even.
Soon ill convert it into a silhouette and turn it into a more proper logo design.

  • Mock Logo Design

Below is the first logo prototype. After turning the concept photo into a 6-color silhouette I repainted the entire image to smooth out rough edges and alter the background to have two shades of blue that perfectly line up the horizon of the wind turbine.
Then using a text box I added the title Vestas in large bold font, nothing too abstract that it contrasts with the poster yet I chose the color choice of white text on a navy blue background so it blends with the background of the image yet is also a noticeable focal point along supplementing the vibrant green of the leaves and mellow blue of the sky.

There are some noticeable edges that need finishing touches so in the near future I’ll polish the logo to near perfection that I can confidently call complete.

  • 3D Logo Design

From the previous sample of using a wind turbine with leaves as the blade.

To implement a 3D model some thoughts were to take a similar make a 3D model of a wind turbine as a basis with a similar design. Though I doubt simply modeling flat shapes will look that appealing as a model so I’ll improvise a bit on proper detailing and get a better feel with using adobe.

As a personal note, the conceptual design is a front facing design akin to this.

Where if incorporated as a model will give it a sense of depth of this looming tower.

Something along the lines of this as a visual.

It’s by far a clean model but this is for the purpose of perspective.

Since it would take some fiddling with the angle of the model as well as the model itself to make sure it has the proper depth of feel. For example if you were to look strait forward at this, the blades are too thin to be visible.

This is because the blades are just flat planes at the moment so I’d have to use a different shape all together or simply change the camera angle that way it captures the entire model properly.
